While crop nutrients exist naturally in the soil, atmosphere and animal
manure, naturally occurring nutrients are not always available in the
forms plants can use. Manufactured crop nutrients contain the same
ingredients as natural ones, but act more quickly and are less
susceptible to weather changes.
Nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) are three
primary nutrients required by all forms of plant life. N fosters rapid,
leafy green growth and builds plant material; P assists with production
of seeds and root growth; and K advances fruit quality and boosts
disease resistance.
We recommend best management practices that ensure crop
nutrients are applied in the proper amounts for high yields and
protection of the environment. Soil sampling, nutrient management
programs and Global Positioning System (GPS) technology help determine
the best application levels. And Variable Rate Technology (VRT) helps
ensure economical and ecologically sound product applications are made
by adjusting crop treatments to meet the varying conditions within each
field.
